Reclaiming Your Pet

When an animal comes into WCHS, our first priority is to attempt to find the owner and reunite the family. Provided the animal’s temperament allows, WCHS scans for a microchip and checks our lost reports on intake for every single animal.

If you find out your pet is at WCHS, there may be fees and documentation you need to bring with you to reclaim your pet. Please call prior to coming in, so a staff member can advise you on what to bring for the reunification with you pet at 262-677-4388.

For dogs:
-All dogs, over the age of 5 months, must be current on a rabies vaccination. Proof of the vaccination must be provided by showing a certificate that has an expiration date that is still current,
-If the dog is not current on a rabies vaccination, proof of a pre-paid rabies vaccination must provided. This means before coming into WCHS, you call your veterinarian, let them know you need to pre-pay for a rabies vaccination, and then bring the receipt in or have the vet clinic fax, 262-677-0388, or email it to [email protected].
-Proof of the current year’s dog license. We ask you to bring with the hardcopy receipt as there are times where WCHS can not look up a license from a tag number. Dog licenses are only valid from January 1st-December 31st.
-If the dog does not have a current year’s dog license, WCHS is able to complete the registration for all municipalities within Washington County, except for the Town of Farmington.
-Your identification & form of payment, for any fees. WCHS accepts cash, check, or charge, besides American Express.
-A collar & leash for your dog to travel home safely.

For cats:
-Depending on what municipality the cat resides in, you may need to provide documentation for current rabies and cat license.
-If your municipality requires the cat have a current rabies vaccination, proof of the vaccination must be provided by showing a certificate that has an expiration date that is still current. 
-If the cat is not current on a rabies vaccination, proof of a pre-paid rabies vaccination must provided.
