Safety for your pet and community starts with a pet license.

Among the many reasons to get your pet licensed, the most vital one is the law. The State of Wisconsin requires that all dogs older than five months get a Rabies vaccine and be licensed annually.

All dogs will be licensed at the time of adoption. The cost of your pet’s license will depend on the municipality you live in, but will typically cost $8-15 (this includes a processing fee imposed by WCHS).

Cats will not automatically be licensed at the time of adoption, but may be licensed by request, so long as the cat is current on the Rabies vaccine. Check with your municipality about cat licensing requirements. All Washington County town, village and city websites are linked below.

Dogs and cats can be conveniently licensed at WCHS each year! Bring your pet’s Rabies certificate and your ID with you when you come. No appointment is needed.
